I TREATED MY ACNE SCARS WITH LASERS AND TCA CROSS | ACNE SCAR COMBINATION TREATMENT | Dr. Jason Emer
skin rejuvenation No Comments »For today’s case, Dr. Emer is going to be performing an acne scar combination treatment for a male patient in order to promote skin resurfacing and to minimize his acne scars from the adult acne he had. He uses TCA Cross on his cheek area for the combination of icepick, boxcar and rolling scar in order to blend these before the aggressive CO2 laser. The skin is pre-treated with a peel to lighten the skin tone in darker skin types to avoid post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after laser.
TCA Cross (TriCloroacetic Acid Chemical Reconstruction of Skin Scars) is a strong acid applied to the base of the scar so a scab can form and peel for collagen to fill it in over time to improve the scar’s appearance. It treats atrophic acne scars by localizing the highly concentrated chemical into specific areas to do collagen remodeling.
A Deep FX Laser is used on his deep scars for CO2 laser resurfacing. Given his skin type, we have to be really cautious on how deep we go because of risk of hyperpigmentation. This laser is used to try deep scars and this can be seen with how small the columns created on his skin are or visible “dots” on his skin.
High-density superficial resurfacing is used on a side angle to get some of the very superficial irrgularities in the scars he has like the box scars, to get it to blend in the surface.
Resurfacing is done superficially with CO2. The energy goes very deep which makes it very popular for resurfacing because the energy is absorbed by the water in the skin. So all the white is dehydrated skin and energy that is being dispersed all around it, causing tightening, improvement in the lines and scars.
The post-procedural healing includes hyaluronic acid, vitamin B, and PRP, which is natural growth factors derived from his own blood to help him heal even after he leaves the office. The entire skincare regimen is very important to include whenever any laser treatment is done because it is the biggest factors helping to treat any problems that may occur, such as infection, hyperpigmentation, prolonged redness, and irregular discolorations.
