So the main two things that give skin color are a pigment called as melanin which is produced by a cell called melanocyte and hemoglobin which is oxygen carrier pigment which is present in the blood. So combination of hemoglobin and melanin will give you your natural skin color. So as a dermatologist I wouldn’t recommend anybody going for skin whitening treatment. Why because melanin is a natural sunscreen it protects you from harmful UV radiation reducing melarine with whatever treatments you do to reduce melanin will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight so this means you’ll need to be indoors more you’ll need to apply lot of sunscreen and all that however if you have uneven skin tone it can be treated with depigmenting creams it can be treated with lasers so in lasers most popular procedures that we do is a carbon peel or a laser peel so where carbon solution is applied and then a Q-switch laser is used to remove that carbon. This also causes mild skin tightening it also causes bleaching of the fine hair that are there on the skin and reduction of the pores because of this tightening. So this gives a nice effect for a few days and another common procedure that we do is called as a peel. So peels are better done at least two or three months prior to your event like a wedding because we cannot start off with a very strong peel we have to start with something mild and see how your skin adjusts. So peels are focused on improving the skin tone not necessarily making you white but if you have areas of dark skin or uneven skin tone or blemishes on the skin a peel will help to get rid of these. Then there are also creams which have skin lightening agents that can be used also creams need to be used at least 2 to 3 months prior to the event. So we need a good 2 or 3 months to give good results in a very short period of one month or one week we can only give temporary.
